What is the European Union Trademark (EUTM)?
The European Union Trademark (EUTM) is a unitary trademark that provides protection across all EU member states with a single application. For individuals or businesses operating in multiple EU countries, this system is preferred as it eliminates the need to file separate applications in each country and ensures protection within the entire Union.
How to Apply for an EUTM?
According to EU regulations, applicants from outside the European Union or the European Economic Area must work with a representative in order to file an application. They do not have the right to file directly. Along with a duly prepared power of attorney, the representative must submit the application including the applicant’s details, a sample of the trademark, and the class numbers specifying the fields of activity in which the mark will be used. Providing accurate and complete information is essential to avoid bureaucratic issues during the registration process and to clearly define the scope of protection for your trademark.
Not Sure Which Classes to Choose?
During the launch period, you can try our Trademark Search product free of charge to determine the class codes that match your business activities and see trademarks similar to yours. Conducting a similarity search will both protect you from high costs and speed up the process.
How is the EUTM Priced?
The fee for an EUTM application depends on the number of classes applied for; the more classes, the higher the total fee.
