How to Apply for a Trademark in South Korea

According to South Korean regulations, individuals who are not South Korean citizens or residents must work with an authorized local representative (agent). These individuals cannot file trademark applications directly.
In applications filed by the representative, a power of attorney is required, along with information such as the applicant’s details, a sample of the trademark, and the class numbers indicating the areas of activity in which the mark will be used.
Entering this information accurately and completely will prevent bureaucratic issues during the registration process and determine the scope of your trademark protection.
Additionally, unlike Turkey, the opposition period after publication has been reduced from 2 months to 30 days, effective July 22, 2025.
Trademark protection in South Korea lasts 10 years from the registration date, not from the filing date.

How Is Trademark Application Priced in South Korea?

The application fee in South Korea is calculated based on the number of classes included in the application. The total fee increases with the number of classes.
Unlike general practice, an additional fee applies for goods/services listed after the 10th item under each NICE class.
Moreover, the registration fee is also determined according to the number of classes covered by the trademark.
